The Inspiration...
The residency was truly a beautiful experience. We each came away with something unique as a group and individually. I wanted to create a time and a place for us to reconnect at "home" as friends, individually in our own creative space and artistically as a group. It is my dream and prayer that during this time we will be able to deepen friendships, learn from each other and from nature and thus deepen our own creative spirit. I will share more of the specifics soon.......It sounds a bit bohemian and I hope it is! I am just so dang excited...You are my inspiration!
A bit about where you will be
My husband Steve and I live on the beautiful Monte Sano Mountain overlooking Huntsville. The mountain is a part of the foothills of the Appalachians. I have grown up on this mountain and played in the woods, caves and creeks (don't get the idea that I was a tomboy I had my Barbies). I also grew up downtown in a 200+ year old house. In the 1800's, Monte Sano was called the "mountain of health or Viduta" and a place for summer homes where you could get away from the heat and also boasted a train and a historic hotel. Growing up we lived on the mountain in my great grandfathers summer home for a few years and then in our house downtown, repeat. When I got married we moved up here as fast as we could. It is a quirky neighborhood with many artists, a state park, trails, a school and an art gallery and a museum. Basically a place free to dream and go outside in your pjs.
You can google info about Huntsville. It is unlike any other place in the south, a mix of old and new, Southerners alongside people from everywhere in the world, not to mention the country. High tech, Bio tech, 5 universities, more ph.D's than anywhere else, a key component of the space race (NASA Marshall Space Flight is here), one of the largest greenspaces within a city limit, the river, farms everything - and southern charm!

A Surprise - Art through Movement
Rose, a ballet dancer and a model that I use will be at the studio late afternoon to pose for us on Saturday. She is very gestural and can tell a story with her body. Explore the different forms of art to describe her.

My Home:
We live on the last street of the mountain in an old summer home, an 1890's raised cottage with a wrap around porch. We can see the view from here and you gain a perspective of other - that things are really beyond self. You also see the glorious sunsets from start to finish (I have learned so much about light from them) and the storms that come in from the west. We will have dinner here and you are welcome to use the porch and grounds for your creative pursuits and to relax. There are three bedrooms and two baths upstairs for some of you.
My Studio
Just down the street is my studio. It too is circa 1890's cottage and I adore it. Our property extends in front of this house through the woods, following a stream that turns into a waterfall during wet weather and over the bluff (does not look out to city). There is a large great room for gathering and easels, a studio room, a salon room along with a bath and kitchen and most importantly a wine opener, cheap wineglasses, coffee maker and kettle.

My Mother's Summer Home:
Next to my studio is my mother's summer home. This 1890's home was our second home (My studio was our first). Yes we moved down the street three times. This home has 3 bedrooms and 3 baths and some of you will stay here. My neighbor also has an unoccupied furnished home next door that can house some people too.
